What is Fluoro-Diving?
Diving with a special blue light that acts as a fluorescent excitor with many organisms to absorb and re-emit a visible glow, transforming the undersea into a psychadelic underworld.
Why Organisms Fluoresce?
Many organisms generate certain proteins that react or fluoresce when exposed to blue wavelengths of light. The fluorescence is the result of the protein absorbing the blue light and re-emitting a pure wavelength of light creating the hyper saturated Glow. Depending on the specific protein that the organism produces, the fluorescent wavelength reaction can be green, orange, red, yellow and blue.
Diving and Fluorescence
Scientists are still learning about the function and evolutionary nature of organisms that fluoresce. There are a growing number of divers helping to catalog the many organisms that do generate proteins that fluoresce and research is underway to see how humans can benefit from this unique evolutionary adaptation.
Where to Fluoro-Dive
Fluorescent diving can transform any dive spot into an exciting new adventure as you explore for fluourescing organisms.
All you need is a Sola Nightsea light with yellow mask or camera filter and your night dives will be unforgettable.
Our lights are designed to be compatible with a variety of hand mounts and all locline video/photo systems. All of our Sola lights have a brain with hundreds of lines of code. Standard features include: smart dashboard with battery status, mode and charge indication, regulated output, li-ion rechargeable batteries, and simple direct external charging.
Light & Motion is proud to be the only major dive light brand with production, assembly, design, and engineering done in-house. Between 50-80% of our content is domestic. Divers using our lights can feel good knowing that they are supporting our community.
The Sola Nightsea has made video imagery so much easier. I think we havent seen a lot fluorescence photography / videography because the lighting has been lacking up until now. The Sola Nightsea puts out a strong beam when you need it for macro and you can even switch it over to a wide coverage to cover your larger subjects. The Sola Nightsea is very versatile and should be in every fluorescence image makers bag. -Jeff Honda
